Adegoke Steve Colson & Iqua Colson – Jazz at Clement’s Place

Pleased to be part of JOY… Newark Arts Festival 2025 @newarkarts We’re performing at one of our favorite N.J. venues CLEMENT’S PLACE named after a dear friend and colleague Clement Price! Opened and run by Wayne Winborne @wcwjazz executive director of the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers- we are always happy to perform there. With us will be Mark Helias (bass) and Jarrett Walser ( drums) and a little extra flavor from tap artist Maurice Chestnut.
Referred to as a “musical power couple” by The New York Times (2017) and DownBeat Magazine (2025), composer/pianist Adegoke Steve Colson and composer/vocalist Iqua Colson have built a body of work that reflects the depth and diversity of the human experience. A native of East Orange, N.J., Ade met Chicago-born Iqua while both were piano majors at Northwestern University’s School of Music. Over the decades, their critically acclaimed international performances have included collaborations with such innovators as Reggie Workman, David Murray, Wallace Roney, Joseph Jarman, Oliver Lake, Tyshawn Sorey, Henry Threadgill, and artists in other disciplines including Savion Glover, Amina & Amiri Baraka, Richard Wesley and Carmen de Lavallade.
Ahead of the indie movement, the Colsons founded their record label, Silver Sphinx, in 1980, producing a series of critically acclaimed recordings. Their latest release, Glow: Music For Trio…Add Voice, released August 22nd, features Mark Helias and Andrew Cyrille.
