Considering the experience of traditions and cultures considered “other” in contemporary US and European society, my practice explores representation in relation to history, culture, race and power. Looking specifically at representations of Asian traditional culture which have been filtered through the contemporary mass media and institutions, my practice interrogates and reframes its form, color and texture challenging visual experiences of histories marginalized in the West. Through my practice, I ask viewers to reconsider the current location of these cultures in our society.
