This is a video that shows my son Haru and I working on one of my Rotating Murals

PROGRAMMING:

The Rapture

The Rapture

The Rapture is an exploration of blues and browns. I started out by painting my family many times and finding colors that work with brown or dark skin tones. Over time, I find no need to continues with the silhouette of the figure and I just used the color brown to represent my family and myself.

What it felt Like

What it felt Like

That’s What it Felt Like is about being vulnerable and also retreating. The figure is almost in a fetal position which works like a shield. He or she is also using the right side of the painting a support.

Biking in the Park

Biking in the Park

Biking in The Park is about exploring the lines texture and wheels. I use circles frequently in my work. I think they have a comforting phycological effect.

Spirit Walk

Spirit Walk

Spirit walk is about the need to connect with the past or the future. I believe there are realities happening around me all the time that I’m not fully aware of. This painting is a welcome matt that invites the unknown.

Rollers

Rollers

I often see my family with curling rollers in the hair. Rollers is about the beauty of this nonsensical act. I was face timing with one of my aunties and all I could look at was these gigantic rollers.

Rabiyah in The Garden

Rabiyah in The Garden

Rabiyah is the Garden is about the beauty of simple family life. I draw the figure and the pants as I experience them, the pictorial objectiveness is something to be toyed with.

Pulsar

Pulsar

Pulsar is about the explosion of stars. The heavens are mysterious, and I want to imagine that mystery. I want of believe that I’m part of whatever is going on out there.

Moon Landing

Moon Landing

Like many of my paintings, this one is about structure and chance. I have elements like a background, foreground, figures, splashes and the participation of my seven-year-old son Haru.

Cloud Monster

Cloud Monster is one of the many temporary murals that I have done in my back yard. I assembled six sheets of plywood to make a 12’x16’ foot surface which I used latex paint to make a new mural on every few weeks. My son Haru and wife Rabiyah often participate in the painting of theses murals
