Newark's Arts High School is the oldest public high school for the visual and performing arts in the country. Building on previous programs dating back to the 1870's, the school opened its doors on High Street (now MLK Blvd) in 1931 to students. Beginning with focuses in Visual Art and Vocal Music, today's Arts High School boasts 18 full-time arts faculty, offering students majors in Dance, Drama, Television Production, Visual Art, Vocal and Instrumental Music.
The Arts High School festival offering this year includes visual art pieces created by students, live music from the AHS Latin Band, student poetry readings, and a small juried show of student watercolors. Please join us for this can't miss event!
