Step into The Joy Nexus, a vibrant, multi-room experience at Newark Arts Festival 2025, where joy is celebrated through film, interactive storytelling, and creative play. This immersive activation invites guests of all ages to explore Black cultural narratives, connect with the community, and express creativity in a welcoming, intergenerational space.
What to Expect at The Joy Nexus
- Multi-Room Immersive Experience: Explore joy through film screenings, creative play, storytelling, and Virtual Reality in a welcoming, interactive space.
- Live Entertainment: Dance to DJ Fauzi on Thursday and experience spontaneous music creations. Friday night, enjoy an Abenaavi curated Afrofuturism playlist featuring artists like Sun Ra.
- Curated Film Screenings: Enjoy selections from the Khem Animation Film Festival, highlighting Black speculative storytelling and culture.
- Hands-On Creative Play: Build your own joyful world with art materials, join collaborative storytelling circles, and engage with sensory joy stations.
- Community Reflection & Digital Voice: Listen to joyful stories. Share affirmations and memories on the Joy Archive Board and contribute voice messages to a dynamic soundscape installation.
- Afrofuturism Corner: Experience vinyl listening, community art, and themed reading in a space dedicated to Black futures and creativity.
- Food & Mocktails: Savor popcorn, snacks, and refreshing mocktails in a relaxed, social atmosphere.
